Theodore's Necktie

 January 22, 1903.  This newspaper contest was open only to subscribers to a magazine called "People's Popular Monthly".  Theodore Roosevelt, being a character so much larger than life, was the subject of many contests and puzzles in early newspapers.

TEDDY ROOSEVELT Puzzles

I came across these newspaper puzzle contests today - I really, really, really like them. I have found five different images of President Roosevelt used in these "Find The Faces" puzzles. This "Teddy With Big Stick" puzzle appeared in the month of October, 1910. Contest was conducted by Ambuhl Bros. Piano Co. of New Castle, Pa.

This "Find The Men Who Licked Teddy" puzzle appeared in the newspaper in November of 1910.

This counting contest makes me sad. Count the Foxes and win a fox-fur coat! I have only seen one fox in the wild and he was beautiful. Anyway, I am going to pretend that it was a FAKE fur coat that the winner received. This contest appeared in a Nevada newspaper in 1951.
