Count Dots and Receive Post Cards

April 20, 1916.  "By being careful and thinking, you can count the number of dots on this auto.  If you can do this, we will send you as a prize, a surprise  package of beautiful season and greeting post cards, lithographed in rich colors . . . ."  OH, how I would love to have those post cards!  I have never heard of an Overland Auto.

July 29, 1935.  Another terrific "Count The Dots" illustration by Edwin Gordon.  This newspaper contest was sponsored by a furniture store and the grand prize was of course a 1935 Chevrolet.

The Next President - ROOSEVELT or PARKER?

October 18, 1904.  "This is not a game of chance.  There is no trick about it.  Simply Count These Dots."  A count the dots contest that featured the two presidential candidates for the year 1904, Theodore Roosevelt and Alton B. Parker.  I Like!!!

Here are four examples of "Counting Contests" found in newspapers. These contests appeared in newspapers in the following years - Count the Dots (1937), Count the Bats and Balls (1965), Count the Diamonds (1952), and Count the Roses (1959).

I enjoy searching through newspaper archives and finding fun items such as this "Count the Dots" contest. This newspaper offered a Webster Player Piano as the prize in their count the dots contest. I have come across many different versions of these contests, most appearing in the early 1900's. This one is from October 1909 - almost 100 years ago.
