From a Canadian newspaper, August 24, 1962. -- Thank GOD the wild fires here in Texas are almost all out. A fairly big fire occurred here in Houston yesterday. Still 100-degrees and no rain but that may change by this weekend.

"OFF to school . . . but first to j.fred johnson. Hi . . . I'm Janie Johnson and this is part of my back-to-school wardrobe. Cut me out, paste me on cardboard and color my outfits . . ." This ad appeared in a Tennessee newspaper on August 26, 1962. I think Miss Janie Johnson is a cute paper doll and I like her early 1960's school wardrobe.

These two newspaper ads for DOLLY DIMPLE Flour are from January and March 1920. Each bag of flour had a Dolly Dimple doll to cut out and sew.

This connect-the-dots ad appeared in a Massachusetts newspaper on August 25, 1943. "It just so happens that I'm a girl of taste which is why I'm crazy about Hood's Milk Sherbert. On a hot summer afternoon nothing tastes so good as a Sherbert cone, whether it's orange or strawberry or lemon." So says Saucy Susan. The ad is for H. P. HOODS & Sons Ice Cream.

Southwestern Bell Telephone Company asking customers to limit their calls on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 1949. From The San Antonio Light, December 23, 1949. I had not realized that the figure in the ad is actually a telephone until my mom pointed it out to me.

This ad for Troutmans appeared in a Pennsylvanian newspaper on May 23, 1974. I certainly had my share of halter tops as a teen.

Lazarus Stores held a Paddington Bear Coloring Contest in 1977. The entry appeared in newspaper ad.

RODNEY ALLEN RIPPY Coloring Contest, 1974

Winners of the RODNEY ALLEN RIPPY Coloring Contest got to ride in a car with little Rodney Allen Rippy in the Fiesta Parade in San Antonio. The contest was ran by Joske's and the contest appeared in San Antonio newspapers in April of 1974. He was a cute little boy and his commercials always made me smile.

Bursley's Coffee Coloring Contest, 1936

This ad for Bursley's Coffee appeared in an Ohio newspaper in June of 1936. Children had a chance to win a bicycle or roller skates. Every child that entered the coloring contest received a box of crayons.

This ad appeared in many newspapers before Father's Day of 1950. The ad, for Panther & O'Connor, "Where the Well Dressed Fellow Gets That Way", offered children a fun-packed folder featuring a life-like paper doll of Dad plus a cut-out wardrobe of Wilson Wear to dress the doll.
