SWISS MISS Coloring Contest, 1962

This was the first in a series of pictures for kids to color in the SWISS MISS INSTANT HOT CHOCOLATE MIX Coloring Contest. The contest ran in the Billings Gazette in February of 1962.

A coloring contest used to advertise a cut-out page of paper dolls, Molly & Dolly, and their wardrobe of colored costumes available in the February 22, 1920 Herald and Examiner, Chicago. Cut Out and Color Molly appeared in a Wisconsin newspaper on February 14, 1920.

RODNEY ALLEN RIPPY Coloring Contest, 1974

Winners of the RODNEY ALLEN RIPPY Coloring Contest got to ride in a car with little Rodney Allen Rippy in the Fiesta Parade in San Antonio. The contest was ran by Joske's and the contest appeared in San Antonio newspapers in April of 1974. He was a cute little boy and his commercials always made me smile.

Circus


The coloring contest for "HAGENBECK-WALLACE CIRCUS" appeared in an Ohio newspaper in June of 1929. I paired the circus coloring contest with a paper doll from the Anna Belle newspaper paper doll series that ran for many years in newspapers across the country. "ANNA BELLE And Jack Play Circus" appeared in newspapers on April 15, 1911. I decided to add a little color to the paper doll.

THE UGLY DACHSHUND Coloring Contest, 1966

This Indiana newspaper coloring contest for THE UGLY DACHSHUND gave away 100 passes to see the movie to the 100 best colored entries. THE UGLY DACHSHUND starred Dean Jones, Suzanne Pleshette, a gentle Great Dane and some naughty Dachshunds. It was released by Disney in 1966. This contest appeared in newspapers in February of 1966.

SANDS OF IWO JIMA Movie Coloring Contest, 1954

This newspaper coloring contest for the movie "Sands of Iwo Jima" appeared in an Alabama newspaper on November 03, 1954. Sands of Iwo Jima starred John Wayne, John Agar, Adele Mara, Forrest Tucker, Arthur Franz, Julie Bishop, Richard Jaeckel, Wally Cassell and Richard Webb. John Wayne received his first Oscar nomination for his role as a tough Marine top-sergeant.
