November 06, 1987.  AN AMERICAN TAIL newspaper coloring contest.  This was Steven Spielberg's first time producing an animated film.  Directed by Don Bluth.  Featured the voices of Dom DeLuise, Christopher Plummer, Nehemiah Persoff, Madeline Kahn, Phillip Glasser, John Finnegan, Cathianne Blore and Will Ryan.  A young Russian mouse is separated from his family as they are about to arrive at their new homeland, America, in the late 19th century.

May 24, 1953.  The movie "HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN" starred Danny Kaye, Farley Granger, Jeanmaire, Roland Petit and John Qualen.  Directed by Charles Vidor.

Greyfriars BOBBY Coloring Contest

October 22, 1961.  The movie "Greyfriars BOBBY" starred Donald Crisp, Laurence Naismith, Alex MacKenzie, Kay Walsh, Duncan Macrae and Gordon Jackson.  British Disney film based on true story of a Skye terrier who became "neighborhood pet" in Edinburgh during 19th century, through unusual circumstances.  Directed by Don Chaffey.  A Walt Disney Production.

FLASH GORDON'S Trip To Mars

June 28, 1938.  Winners of this coloring contest won tickets to see the 1st episode in the serial "Flash Gordon's Trip To Mars".  I am guessing that it starred Buster Crabbe as our hero.

The New Musical Comedy, "Li'l Abner"

December 18, 1959.  This Paramount movie starred Peter Palmer, Leslie Parrish, Stubby Kaye, Howard St. John, Julie Newmar, Stella Stevens, Billie Hayes and Robert Strauss.  "Lively Gene DePaul - Johnny Mercer musical comedy based on the Broadway version of Al Capp's comic strip; loud and brassy, with corny comedy, some good songs.  Stubby Kaye is fine as Marryin' Sam; other Dogpatch characters vividly enacted.  Look sharp for a young Valerie Harper and Beth Howland among the chorus girls." - From Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide.  Directed by Melvin Frank.

Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation

June 30, 1962.   A movie coloring contest for the movie "Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation" which starred Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara.  Also in the cast were Fabian, John Saxon, Marie Wilson, Reginald Gardiner, Lauri Peters and John McGiver.  Director was Henry Koster.  Based on the novel by Edward Streeter.

THE WORLD IN HIS ARMS

August 20, 1952.  Winners from this movie coloring contest won tickets to see "THE WORLD IN HIS ARMS" starring Gregory Peck, Ann Blyth, John McIntire, Anthony Quinn, Andrea King, Eugenie Leontovich and Sig Ruman.  The movie, an adaptation of the novel by Rex Beach,  is set in 1850's San Francisco with skipper Peck romancing Russian Blyth.  Directed by Raoul Walsh.

Please, Please, Don't Eat The Daisies

April 27, 1960.  I liked this movie and I also liked the television show based on this movie.  PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES starred Doris Day, David Niven, Janis Paige, Spring Byington, Richard Haydn, Patsy Kelly, Jack Weston and Margaret Lindsay.  Based on stories by Jean Kerr about a drama critic and his family.  This Paramount film was directed by Charles Walters.  Doris Day sings the title song, of course.

CATS & DOGS

July 09, 2001.  A newspaper coloring contest for the movie, CATS & DOGS.  I have never seen this movie but I thought it was a cute image.

DICK VAN DYKE in "Never A Dull Moment"

August 02, 1968.  NEVER A DULL MOMENT starred Dick Van Dyke, Edward G. Robinson, Dorothy Provine, Henry Silva, Joanna Moore and Tony Bill.  This Walt Disney Production was directed by Jerry Paris.  The movie did not receive good reviews, but hey, it has Dick Van Dyke and Edward G. Robinson - two actors that I really like.

The Red Dance

September 21, 1928.  A coloring contest for the motion picture, THE RED DANCE.  "This is Delores Del Rio in The Red Dance, Fox Movietone special, opening at the Campus Theater tomorrow.  Cash prizes of $5.00 and $2.50 and two pair of passes for the next two attractions at the Campus Theater are offered to the persons who do the best job of coloring this drawing.  Cut out this drawing, use crayons, water color, pastels or any medium.  Red should be the principal color."  The Red Dance starred Charles Farrell, Delores Del Rio, Ivan Linow, Boris Charsky and Dorothy Revier.  A story of romance and intrigue during the Russian revolution.  Directed by Raoul Walsh.

ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS

August 22, 1964.  Do young girls still read this wonderful book by Scott O'Dell - I certainly hope so.  ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS, the movie, received bad reviews but I LOVED it!  The movie would come on television about once a-year when I was a pre-teen and teenager and for me it was an event.

MOON PILOT Coloring Contest

April 19, 1962.  MOON PILOT was a Disney film that starred Tom Tryon, Brian Keith, Edmond O'Brien, Dany Saval, Tommy Kirk, Bob Sweeney and Kent Smith.  Directed by James Neilson.  Comedy about an astronaut that meets a mysterious girl from another planet just before his mission.  Received good reviews.

LITTLE WOMEN Movie Coloring Contest

January 03, 1934.  "Here are the LITTLE WOMEN, those lovable girls from Louisa M. Alcott's beautiful romance of family life, as seen in the motion picture of the story produced by RKO-Radio.  Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy are comparing the Christmas gifts they have bought for Marmee, one being a bottle of cologne in a wicker jacket.  Left to right they are played by Frances Dee, Katharine Hepburn, Jean Parker and Joan Bennett."  This movie was directed by George Cukor and also starred Paul Lukas, Spring Byington, Edna May Oliver and Douglass Montgomery.  Victor Heerman and Sarah Y. Mason received Oscars for their adaptation of the book.
